At the Institute for Open Space Planning and Design, people are at the center of consideration in planning and design activities at all scales. Research questions are broad and applied in the sense of a livable, high-quality designed environment in the city and countryside. Natural scientific, artistic and design-oriented as well as social and political science approaches to the topics are used in the analysis of open spaces as well as the debate about their further development.

Evaluation Bürgerbeteiligung beim Wettbewerb "Saarbrücken - Stadtmitte am Fluss"
Das Wettbewerbsverfahren steht durch europäische Vorgaben unter einem ständigen Innovationsdruck. Dabei geht es einerseits um eine größere Transparenz des Verfahrens zur Auswahl der besten Teams für eine Planungsaufgabe, andererseits um die Öffnung des Verfahrens für Laien im Rahmen von Bürgerbeteiligung und Bürgerengagement. Mit einem empirischen Forschungsansatz werden Beispiele, in denen die Auslober neue Wege gehen analysiert.
